Diet plays a huge role in health and fitness. In this unit you will learn what constitutes a healthy, balanced diet as well as how to make healthy food choices to assist in weight loss (or gain). By the end of the lesson, you will be able to:

- distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods
- choose foods that constitute a balanced diet
- determine which calories are considered "empty"

According to nutrition experts at Harvard School of Public Health, the Healthy Eating Plate (shown on the left) addresses key flaws in the U.S Department of Agriculture's My Plate. Read about their finding here: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/healthy-eating-plate/ After reading information from both sources, although they don't totally agree on every aspect of healthy eating, are you still able to make good informed decisions on healthy eating?
